Taormina at night is quite lively, with plenty of bars and cafes. You can hear laughter, music, and nightlife everywhere on Corso Umberto. But today I would like to show you the other side of the pearl. A hidden treasure that my partner and I discovered during our last visit to Taormina.
We wanted some peace and quiet, so we decided to take a romantic night walk to the Isola Bella beach, which is full of tourists during the day.
So while most tourists were crowding the local bars, we set out to discover the nightly, rhythmic noise of the Ionian Sea, which was crashing against the rocks of the breathtaking Isola Bella at night.

Isola Bella at night: A private kingdom illuminated by stars

You enter Isola Bella through a gate located right next to the La Baia restaurant (address: Via Nazionale, 149, 98039 Taormina ME, Italy). As soon as you walk down to the beach, you enter silence. The path to Isola Bella leads down approximately 130 steps from this last main street. The path to the beach is illuminated and, unlike during the day, there are no vendors here. During the day, this path is full of sellers of hats, towels, and sunglasses, as well as believers. In the evening, however, peace and the gentle sound of the waves lapping over the pebble beach await you.
Once you have descended these steps, you will reach your own kingdom.
You will pass by closed beach clubs, and within 5 minutes, you will be on a tip with a magnificent view of the island illuminated at night.
Today, this island is home to the regional natural history museum, Museo Naturalistico Regionale di Isolabella. During the day, you can buy a ticket there and go inside. At night, however, this illuminated treasure creates a beautiful backdrop for a romantic date, a night swim, or even an evening walk to clear your head and take a breath.
This entire island creates an incredible spectacle thanks to its lighting. It felt like an elegant lighthouse under the stars, which are beautifully visible thanks to less light pollution down on the beach.

What to do on Isola Bella at night

The sea was wonderfully warm and directly invited night swimming. The entire beach has a relatively shallow entrance to the sea, so during the day, the sun warms the beach and the water, and at night, you can enjoy a romantic swim. Thanks to the fact that it is no longer oppressive heat, the beach climate is very friendly even for a longer stay.
At the same time, there is also a tide, so if you want to go to the island, like we did, you will go through the water, because the path that is available on the beach during the day is now underwater. You will only be underwater a little, about halfway up your calves. For us, it was very beautiful. We laughed a lot because some pebbles were not visible underwater in the dark, which surprised us a few times.
Isola Bella is a public beach. A large part (approximately 70%) is occupied by beach clubs that belong to hotels just above the beach, but on the remaining 30%, which are at the tip of the island, you can make yourself comfortable.
At night, it is an incredibly magical and romantic place. Thanks to the calm, quiet atmosphere and complete privacy, my partner and I had space for deeper conversations, which helped us deepen our connection a little bit again. Isola Bella at night is breathtaking. The sound of the waves, a city lit up in the distance, throbbing with nightlife, and by my side an amazing person whom I deeply trust. It was a time that I truly experienced to the fullest.
If you are thinking about where to go at night in Taormina, nightclubs are all over the world. There is music, drinks, locals, and tourists everywhere, but these places "away from the mainstream" such as Isola Bella at night, will enchant your heart and allow you to perceive the area you have come to a little differently. It will allow you to really get to know and feel the place, as it is when there are no crowds of tourists.

View of Taormina from Isola Bella

Night swimming on Isola Bella beach

If you enter the beach at night, you have an incredible opportunity to swim in the beautifully warm water, alone in peace under the stars and moonlight. In the background, you will see Taormina, which is pulsating with nightlife. It is an incredibly wonderful experience to be practically alone in such a beautiful place. For me, entering the water when we went to the island was very refreshing.
The beach is pebbly, so wear shoes that let you move comfortably in the water. Thanks to the clear water, you can see down to the stones below. It is a beautiful and peaceful feeling.
Not everyone needs to dance in a club to feel alive. You won't have the place to yourself during the day, but at night it is incredibly peaceful and quiet, and it will show you its main treasures.

Candlelight dinner on the beach

When we arrived at Isola Bella, we walked past the beach clubs; one of the restaurants was still open. From this restaurant, a path led directly to the beach, where a candlelit table stood. A young couple was sitting at the table, having a romantic dinner. They were alone. Just one candlelit table a few steps from the sea. No one disturbed them. I thought that it must have been a beautiful, intimate moment for them. I whispered to my partner, "Look, look how alone the two of them are there. That must be a very beautiful moment for them." He smiled and kissed me. You can also experience such beautifully intimate moments on this beautiful beach at night.

What else to do in Taormina at night

Late night gelato

Sicily is a paradise for ice cream lovers. Especially in season, you can buy delicious gelato on almost every corner. I will take you somewhere else for delicious gelato (to the best gelateria in the world), but here in Taormina, they also have excellent ones.

Night view

There is a beautiful night view in Taormina. It is located here. If you want a romantic sunset with your partner or a night retreat, I definitely recommend visiting this beautiful place. We had wonderful views of Taormina at night and Isola Bella beach. Be careful on the way to the night view. Walk on the right side and be marked with a light or reflective element. There are no sidewalks in Taormina, so if you decide to walk, you may find that a night bus, taxi service, or Uber passes you very close by. Everyone drives more carefully at night, but safety is no coincidence, right?

Have you been to Taormina and found other beautiful places off the mainstream? Share them with others. I'll be happy. For example, I also love Taormina's sunrise at Isola Bella.
